Comment:

I can't seem to run shell scripts that reside on an EXT2 filesystem. I get bad interpreter: permission denied every time I try, even though I am root, and the exec bits are set on both the script and bash, the #! line points to the right place for bash, and the filesystsem is allowed to execute. The same scripts work fine as long as they reside somewhere else.

Any help is appreciated.

Problem solved. Being a Linux n00b, I had the mount properties (in fstab) for the filesystem not allowing symlinks for some reason. I had it set the same way my root filesystem is, but for some reason that didn't work. I changed it, and it works fine now.
