auido not working ubuntu

Hi all I have dual boot xp,ubuntu 7.10 ,on linux i can play movies but no audio, on winxp audio works fine my sound card realtek HD audio , how do i get audio to work on linux.
I read it wrong and answer it wrong too. So get off my case you peanut.

Thanks jefro Mixer setting are right, there is no sound at all, except at login screen when i put in wrong username or passwd it makes a beep. i checked that link i install realk driver using wine, that didt help still no sound.
