If you want Instant Messaging Software, KDE includes Kopete. I use it here to communicate on WLM, ICQ, and GoogleTalt (a Jabber server). There are many Instant Messaging packages available for use in linux. Check your distribution's Software Package Manager. I'll bet it has an entire section (perhaps under Networking) for Instant Messaging . . .

I think there is a google talk for linux and osx already.

"Best Practices", Event viewer, host file, perfmon, antivirus, anti-spyware, Live CD's, backups, are in my top 10

Sorry, I can't access that from my work.

I suspect you could get it working with wine. Did you try that if all other chat type apps won't work?
