ALERT message help!

I get this in my /var/log/maillog file: Jun 23 12:17:25 dhcp-892-15 sendmail[14177]: unable to qualify my own domain name (dhcp-892-15) -- using short name I have no idea what this means. Does anyone? Also when I try to send mail to the mail server from the outside like a hotmail account I don't get it??? I know there are people out there that can help me. PLEASE DO!!! I am trying to get my work to switch over!!!
