Adding users, mapping drive problem

Ok, I need some advice here. We've got this old Caledera Linux server that I set a user up on. I add them as usual, went into a terminal screen and did the little samba command (smbpasswd -a -n username), created a home directory, etc... But when I go to any of the XP Home machines (this is at an outposted location) and try to map drives it keep prompting me for a username and password. I type the username and password and it prompts me again. These are the two screen shots I keep getting. I'm using these as examples but normally the second screenshot is the PCname/username. Have you ever seen this before.

Check your security level in your smb.conf file and also that you have encrypted passwords enabled. Why did you use the -n switch? If you want null passwords then you have to have "null passwords = yes" in your smb.conf file. Much easier to just add a user with the same username and password as on the XP machines.

As you can tell I'm very new to Linux. I've learned alot but I've got a long way to go. My co-worker gave me that command and said to only use it.
I'll try it and thanks for the info.

OK, I deleted the user and added them back and I can now map to the shared folders with no problems. I can also now see their home directory BUT when I try to map or access to it (as the user) I get a access denied error. I've compared the rights to the folder to other users and can't see any differences. Any ideas?
