Does anyone know of a good, easily configurable adblocking program (freeware)
for linux? Possibly similar to "proxomitron" for windows.

junkbuster is very good for these purposes. it is a small proxy that blocks all URLs with specific words in it. it is configured with a very long list of words which can be automatically updated weekly or daily (or whateverly) with cron
been using it for years now and it works like a charm
hth

I use webwasher on windows to block banners, but webwasher for linux sucks hell. Instead I switched to Squid+Squidguard plugin. Takes ages to configure, but when you are finished, it becomes one of the most powerful ad blockers on earth. I inserted all the urls I blacklisted in webwasher on windows into squidguard, and now it blocks them just as well, but much faster than webwasher and besides squid/-guard is freeware, not like webwasher for linux, which totally limits you and always display messages "upgrade your license" bla
If you want to use squid, don't forget to define the user as "squid" (the squidguard folders, where the squidguard blacklists are situated), took me 10 hours to find out.
for popups - don't know, is there something? I use opera most of the time, and there popups are blocked automatically. also in mozilla. and that's all. konqueror sucks for browsing and galeon is just mozilla with different look. not much to choose from.
