Can someone advice me that I tried to activate an ethernet device and I got the following message:

Do you have more than one NIC? If not it should really be eth0 and not eth1. Sounds like it could also be trying to pick up an IP via DHCP. have you tried setting it statically? You don't say what distro you are using. They all come with different config tools but you can always use "ifconfig" and "route" to set it up manually.
