Hi,
I've installed the new 2.4.20 mandrake kernel with ACPI support on my laptop(phoenix bios 4.0 version 6.0).
I decided to load thermal and battery module.Thermal module seems to work fine.
However battery module is not so good. The module loads and I have access in /proc/acpi/battery/... to battery information that seems to be correct. But sometimes when I do that system freezes. Also if I use akpi to have battery applet in KDE, when the app tries to access /proc/acpi/battery/... , it freezes the system.
I'm under KDE 3.0.3
Any ideas ????
Thanks a lot.
Christophe.

For me, the experience with ACPI is touch and go. I have tried it with
1. ECS Desknote
2. HP Pavilion XT345 aka ZE4000 ~ ZE5000
3. Compaq Presario 2700I did try loading ACPI part of the kernel as well as modules.
Using ACPID also helped. But, couldn't get the processor to step down or up, the LCD did reduce its brightness.
Specific to your problem, you can do the following.
1. Turn on Debug messages
2. Check dmesg for for ACPI messages(during boot).
3. cat /proc/acpi/event and remove your A/C adapter, close your LID, plug your A/C adapter in etc, to check whether ACPI is indeed recongnizing your ACPI events.
4. During boot, it tells you that, you can turn ACPI off, if it gives you "problems".
5. Check for help with your particular laptop model on linux-laptop.net.
6. Don't load the battery module, see if everything else works?, that way you have a better focus on the issue.

Hi,
I've tested all the modules. AC adapter works fine. When I plug the A/C adapter in, ACPI recognize the event. Also if I plug off.
But battery still sometimes hangs system when I want to read values. I can't use akpi because it reads too often the battery.
If I don't read in /proc/acpi/battery/... it works.Thanks
Chris
