A few questions (im a rather large noob)

1. how can one check the ip of an ethernet interface? (eth0 in my case)

2. im working to integrate the machine with the rest of my network (2 WinXP machines), and am expeiriencing some fun trouble... I've NFS running on the RH9 box, however, it seems to be operating under the name "localhost"... which Windows just loves... ideas on how to fix the problem?

3. is there anyway to test the virtualhost(s) of apache without going through public/web DNS? (i'm attempting to setup a basic webserver... would be useful to find out how to go figure out virtual hosting)

to some degree I've figured the network recognition problem, but, Windows doesn't seem to have write permissions..... so... if anyone can help, I'd appreciate a link/shorp synopsis/other of what would be required to help/fix this problem... (in addition to an idea of how to go about configuring RH9 for network use... and... everything else I've asked....)

Thanks for the/any help

1. - ifconfig
2. - windows will not work with NFS, you'll have to use samba.
3. I have no idea.

There are 10 kinds of people, those who count in binary and those who don't.

1 - ifconfig from a shell/command line gives you all the interface info

2 - Windows offers "Services for Unix" (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/sfu/default.asp) and it's free (now). However, if you're using the Linux box as a "Server" then you definately want to go with Samba (http://www.samba.org).

3 - When testing new virtuals, you can use the "Host" file to setup the tested virtual host to the correct IP address. If you're testing from a browser on Linux, it's /etc/hosts. If you're testing from a Windows Box it's c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts. Thats what I do to test all my virtuals before going through the pain of setting up the DNS :)

Luck!
