I have a 30 gig hd partitioned @ 15g w/ w2k(ntfs). The other half is RH 9.0 . Is there a way to install mdk 9.0 on the same hd? I have pm 6.0 as well as bootstar.Keep getting the 1024 cyl. error. If this can be done manually w/ disk druid would you please explain. Thank you in advance........Paul

If you are trying to use the Linux /boot partition, it needs to be within the first 1024 cylinders of the hard drive. This means if you already have something installed on the first partition like w2k, that partition needs to be relatively small(around 7GB).
One way around this is to put the bootloader in the MBR instead of /boot. Then it doesn't matter what size the partitions are. Don't forget to put both systems into the boot menu.

I use XOSL as a bootloader. Put LILO/GRUB onto the root partition instead on the MBR.

When you install Linux, after you go through the section of creating partitions, the next section asks what kind of boot loader you want to use Lilo or Grub. Below that is where you select the location to put it....into the MBR or the /boot partition. Below that is where you select the different systems that show up on the boot menu.

One a similar subject: 4 OS's, 2 drives

1st drive: 100GB, 8 parts. 1st two, Win98SE/W2K. Next 6, various uses.

2nd drive:13GB, I want to empty & install Lycoris & Mandrake 8.2. There's a Win98 op. & other stuff on this drive but I want it gone. Best (most stable) way to do this to have access during boot to any of the four?

Dell, XPST-450, P3, w/100GB-ATA100 & 13GB-ATA66 drives, Hitachi DVD, Plextor burner.

Additionally, best idea as to IDE setup? Both HD's as Masters?

Thanks for any help/tips,
T ;)
