I'm looking ot install linux on an hdd in an old pIII machine. I bought a shiny new 200 gig hdd for this purpose (using as a server), but I read that your bios needs to recognize the big drive. I checked and my bios only says its 130 gig. I assume this is a problem.
Now for my question. If I were to formate hte drive with two 100 gig partitions, would I still have problems? Will I not be able to access the other 70 gigs at all because of my bios?

If the BIOS only "sees" 130gb that is all you will get. You need a hard drive controller that supports 48-bit lba to use the full capacity of the drive.

Before buying anything see if there is a newer BIOS for your computer. Unless the MB is very old there should be a BIOS update to allow for bigger hard drives.
