I couldn't find the underscore anywhere on my iPad so I looked though articles and figured it out. Oddly enough, I went to email someone and it was gone. I've gone back and forth- it's there, it's gone, there, gone. I think it's where the undo or redo key is, as long as I'm NOT in the mailbox. Any idea how to get at it? It's the damnedest thing....... Press the .?123 key then the #+= key, there you will find the underscore.
Some apps have special keyboards. For example, in safari, you can't use spaces. However, in mail it should be there. THX has stated where to find it, but if it still isn't there, you might be experiencing a glitch. Do a hard reset (aka hold the home and lock key until the iPad turns off) if it persists.
