Solved Nokia Lumia 520,difficulty turning on and off.

October 24, 2013 at 15:11:00
Specs: Windows XP

The power button works intermittently and cant scroll to turn off which it used to shut down "Goodbye" message. The menu has blown up so large and won't allow me to reduce the size so can't access/see all the menu....tried turning phone off, can't scroll, haven't got full keyboard so cant email ,text or phone .How can I reduce the size as I've tried pinching the images to reduce but nothing seems to make any difference.
Hope i've ticked the correct categories as have only just got one of these types of touch phone/slide and go mobiles.More trouble than they're worth so far!

Unfortunately you chose a Nokia phone, and it's a Windows 8 phone -- both bad choices. Nokia touch-screen models probably have the worst record for problems and locking up. Try a factory reset:

I myself use a nokia lumia with little to no issues. If you just bought it however, it should be under warranty

try this before a factory reset

Thanks Phil 22 and mikelinus. Have managed to sort the settings out,but have no idea how I did!! So at least I can see the while menu tiles, and keyboard, hence why I'm now able to respond to you. I'm on Orange contract but spent 7hrs last month firstly ringing from my landline to ill trained "customer service" people who put me on hold, then cut me off. And then went to Orange shop which is a franchise with commission based ,unknowledgeable dummies running it. So thankyou for your help to a very non technical person. Still need to get the power button to be less temperamental as either have to ring my mobile from my landline to switch it on or keep plugging into the charger. Any ideas how to rectify problem would be great. I t was an upgrade so I didn't actually buy it.so doesn't appear to be covered by a warranty, according to Orange!!

I've clicked on the link mikelinus sent which shows how to reset Nokia Lumia 520.I didn't initially understand soft and hard reset jargon, but the Nokia link was easy to follow.I think there is something actually wrong with the power button design as seems very hard to access to turn or switch off mobile. need a manicure after damaging my nails to dig it on!!
