Hold down the home button and the sleep button until you see the Apple logo. If you see the screen that tells you to swipe to turn off, ignore it just keep holding the two buttons until you see the Apple logo, then let it boot.

As an aside, depending on the charger, it makes a difference which way the polarization goes on the plug. So you might try it reversed(upside down). My wife had this kind of issue where she drained the battery, and plugged it in overnight and it failed to charge.

The plugs on the iPad only fit in one way, they are keyed so you can't accidentally reverse them unless it's a lightning connector in which case it wouldn't matter, they are made to be plugged in either way.

I was talking about at the wall, you can plug in the ipone and ipod wall plugs upside down and this will cause the ipod/iphone not to charge

That is 100% untrue. Alternating current comes out of the wall, it is not polarized like direct current is. it makes no difference what so ever which way it's plugged in.

If it did matter, don't you think they would put in safeguards to keep you from plugging it in the wrong way?

I do understand what you are saying, and I thought it was odd myself. However I just tested it(on three chargers), unless the apple symbol is up(which again I agree is logical)it does not charge, when the plug is plugged in with the apple on the down side it doesn't charge. I don't know if this has to do with the USB connection polarity requiring the correct ac connection?

mikelinus, do you live outside the US? It may be different overseas, not sure. Here in the US, it makes no difference which way it's plugged in, I've done it both ways countless times and never had an issue.

It has nothing to do with the USB connection polarity.

Sorry to hijack the thread btw to the original poster. I guess its just my connectors, I live in the usa. its like that for all of my i devices and all three connectors.

I don't know what to tell you, this is not normal behavior.

o.k. last post from me on the subject. apparently the knock off iPhone chargers i ordered from an online site have this phenomenon, but not the official ones. I am not sure as to why this would be.
