hello,this is my story:
1.i have a wd external dard disc(i formatted it from fat32 to nfts.one day i could not "see" some folders so i decided to run chkdsk.When it finished it is said that everything was ok and i used it normally.
2.then i had often connections and disconnections of it and suddenly i get a message "You need to format the disk in drive G: before you can use it". I tried to connect it via other usb ports but i got the same msg.it is flashing,i can hear the connection sound and i opened disc managment.There i can see it as disc 1 primary partion (dark blue colour).But i didn't watch it on my computer.
3.i restarted then my pc and when i go to discc managment it disappeared but i can find it to device manager as mass storage.the hd still flashing.
what sould i do right now?ps:i have a netbook running windows 7 starter.when i tried to connect it to my macbook pro,i can't "see" it at all
thank you in advace and sorry for my english
Try using TestDisk to repair the Master File Table on your external drive:

Note that when it was FAT32 it could be used also with a Mac but now it is NTFS, it cannot. As long as it is NTFS, it is good for Windows and Linux, but not the Mac (unless there has been a recent change in this). Are you always remembering to use the 'Safely Remove Hardware' feature before unplugging it? If not, then that may be why you are having trouble.
I hope that Phil's suggestion helps. I would be interested in saving that information if it does.
You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
i have tried this but it worked for 2 days.Now i have the same problem.
Is it time for me to buy a new hhd?
@fingers
i can only read my files on NFTS with my mac and not write.Yes,i do always safely reomove my hhd before i eject it.
