Im looking to get a new desktop computer this week. I havent purchased a desktop since windows me. I have looked around online and i have decided to get a dell xps, or an alienware or a hp blackbird.

I checked specs at each site and then did a comparison with the off the shelf models at best buy but i cant make heads or tails of it.

If your budget was $2500.00 (USD) which one would you get? Please give me a model or suggested upgrades.

Incase this matters im not a gamer but i am working with fireworks, photoshop & flash and other GUI creation software thats killing my laptop. I need something with muscle :). I decided to just spend the money now so i have something that will last me a couple of years.

I know i could build a better computer for less money but to be honest i just dont have the time anymore. Thanks.

If you're not a gamer and you use a lot of graphics intense programs, and you have $2500.00 to spend, you might want to consider a MAC. A lot of software is Mac compatible today and you can install xp on it also if you choose. Check out their site for more details.

It makes them think you're up to something...

I have a 24" imac that i bought in January of this year.. i recently maxed out the ram on it.

The plan was to use the imac for graphics but its just barely doing better than my laptop.

I know your talking about a mac not an imac but the reason i brought it up is because i run Vista on the mac 99% of the time and i decided i dont want anymore apple products for now because i dont have time to apreciate/learn them.

Then why are you looking at gaming machines?

"I know i could build a better computer for less money but to be honest i just dont have the time anymore"

Make that a LOT less money. You could easily do it for $1000, probably less. Order the parts online & wait til everything comes in. It shouldn't take much more than an hour to assemble, then all you need to do is load the OS & software.

Look at the specs for the $625 budget gamer at Tom's Hardware:

Jam, im looking at gaming machines because i need something thats going to work when i need it to. I need something thats not going to take 5 seconds to redraw everything on the screen because i moved a window 2 inches. I have 21 applications i use for work and twice that many for personal use and my goal here is to load this software once and not have to do it again for a couple years.

As far as building one.. i was home 2 months out of 12 this year because i was working out of town the other 10. I dont have time to pick up a power cord let alone try to outfit a barebones rig.

The gaming machines are the only ones with current specs and for the next few years i wont have to worry as much about it becoming obsolete.

Hey have you considered checking out some of the smaller boutiques? You can get a slamming maching from one of those guys, most of the time for cheaper than Alienware or Blackbird and get much better customer service.

My bro got a gaming PC from a company called Velocity Micro last year and he loves it. The same config from them was about 20% cheaper than Alienware and Blackbird. I'd at least check them out before buying from someone else.

Why aren't you looking at workstations then?

So you're saying you're gonna haul a desktop PC around with you for 10 months out of the year?

Why did you choose to be named Jam? You could have chosen Tam and Pam or Spam but instead you chose Jam. Why is that?

Why did you respond to a thread with no intentions on answering the question posed by the original poster?

"So you're saying you're gonna haul a desktop PC around with you for 10 months out of the year?"

Yes. Along with a 30" monitor and the other 1000 LBS of gear i travel with for work. What does it matter? Im also into sci-fi, i like walks on the beach.. anything else you need to know before you answer my original question or skip past this thread?
