XP won't recognize SATA

Specs: Windows XP
I had Vista Ultimate and got rid of it, got back
to windows XP
at first everything went alright, setup run OK.
after the setup finished the computer was
stuck at POST screen (motherboard LOGO).
I figured it was the HD, cuz when I
disconnected him I could run the BIOS.
so I took an old IDE drive that I had and
installed XP, now I have OS but when I
connect the SATA drive it won't show up,
neither on the Disk Management window.
the drive is fine, I connected him to my laptop
with an adapter and its working.
the BIOS is set for 'Compatible Mode',
otherwise its stuck on the POST.

anyone knows what might it be?

XP doesn't natively support SATA. You have to install the SATA drivers.
