XP won't recognize hard drive after upgrade

Specs: Windows XP

I can't really afford to get a new computer right now, so I decided to frankenstein 3 comps that I have. I decided to install WIN XP on the computer, it used to have 2000. Pre XP my 20 gig hard drive worked fine. After XP I get a message that hard drive is unformated or unrecognizable format. Hard drive is Fat32. Hard drive also used to work just fine on another comp with xp. Any idea how I can get the new XP machine to recognize the HD?

Sounds like the data just got corrupted. I would use a program called easus data recovery. It might fix it or you can transfer the data to another drive then reformat and copy back. Good Luck.

When 2000 was on the hd was it also fat32 or ntfs?.

Formatting fat32 to ntfs is easy.
I have never had much luck with ntfs to fat 32 unless I used a program like partition magic.

You might also try delpart to format the drive.
