Hello, I have just built this new PC last week:

ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 X2 5400+ 2.8GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Processor
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

The install was fine however I noticed while booting up a message would appear saying that no drives were detected, but then it would continue to boot my harddrive connected to SATA1. However this week now after that message appears it says failure to boot and asks me to insert system disc.

However the weird thing is that I can still boot the harddrive if I hit F8 and manually select it. I also can boot it if I insert a CD into DVD drive, and when it asks to boot from CD I do not do anything and it continues to boot the HD instead. How can I fix this? I assume there is some BIOS setting to remedy this. Thanks.

first of all i would be looking at the boot order / boot priority in the bios setup.
It sounds like you need to move the bootable hard disc up the list - or to the first one

Ok I will try that right now I have the hard disc as second and the CD ROM first which is a setup I have used with previous boards for years. Plus it didn't seem to be a problem with this setup until last night. To be honest I wonder if perhaps the new Diskeeper 2008 software trial I installed may have messed up my drive?

I noticed in your list of parts, there is no hard drive listed. Is this because it is an older drive from you old system? "no drives were detected" is often an indication the drive is failing, may want to test it with the manufacture's software.

Post the make/model & specs of your power supply.

Yeah sorry I only listed the new hardware. Well the drive works perfectly still and it was only when I ran the demo version of Diskeeper 2008 then afterwards on the next bootup it displayed that error. Basically the bios just says no drives dectected but it displays their info. It is like the motherboard just doesn't want to auto boot it anymore.

Try running system restore to a date before the Diskeeper instalation.

Yes I use Norton Ghost and restored the info before Diskeeper but that didn't work. Hello Jam sorry I missed your post the first time. I have had my power supply for a while it is:

APEVIA ATX-AS600W-BL ATX12V / EPS12V 600W Power Supply

Aspire (Apevia) had a bad run a few years ago with their 500W units. The specs were misrepresented & there were numerous problems caused by fluctuations on the +12v rail. Not long afterward, they changed their name to Apevia, stating that the name change was because of confusion with Acer's Aspire series. Anyhow, your 600W unit is *probably* fine....gotta cover all bases though.

So this is a rare problem eh? I wonder if my BIOS is not setup correctly because it sees the Primary IDE DVD player, and my two harddrives (master and slave no RAID) on SATA1 and SATA2 on the first boot screen. If you like perhaps I can take pictures for you guys to see what it is displaying.
