i'd say no, it only supports the athlon thunderbirds up to 1.4 ghz and durons..nowhere i have read that says it supports xp cpu's and it also only has a max fsb of 133, being a VIA KT133 chipset also

You may be in luck with. If you have the GA-7ZX revision 5.1 you will be able to fit up to a Athlon XP 2100+. Can you tell me which bios revision you have, it should be printed on the motherboard itself. Hope this helps.

Thanx for your replies, I think this is a revision 5.0 as I havnt got the computer with me and am going on memory , but someone told me that if I updated the bios I could maybe get an XP working on it even if it never gave the full amount of the processor.

Unfortunately only the 5.1 revision with an updated BIOS will support any kind of Athlon XP prcessor. Have a look at the Gigabyte website, search under other and find the GA-72X and then have a look at CPU support. The website is www.gigabyte.com.tw

Thanks Andrew, checked the Gigabyte webpage and I almost sure that my M/B is a GA-7ZX 5.0 and you are right , maybe I can go to Athlon 1.4 as I believe that is 133 fsb the highest this board goes to, but might be an improvement but failing that I will get another M/B with an XP AMD to match when I go to Broken Hill where we live 1300 k's away.
