I currently have the GeForce Ti 4200, (I think it's 128mb @ 4x AGP). If I were to get the 6200, would it make a big difference in performance? I do a little gamming, alot of media, and alot of web surfing.

Old stuff that still works, somewhat....

There's very little performance difference between 4X & 8X AGP.

The Ti4200 is an older DX8 card, but it's a performance card that uses 128-bit memory. The 6200 is a newer DX9 card, but it's a budget card that uses 64-bit memory. The 6200 is NOT a gaming card...IMO, it shouldn't even be considered.

I don't know how much you're looking to spend, but you'd be better off with a Radeon 9600XT. This chart will give you an idea of the difference between the 9600XT vs Ti4200.

Here's one for $40 after rebate:

XFX GeForce 6200 256MB AGP 8x is a good basic upgrade card for an older computer or a low budget newer computer. The card has low power consumption because of heatsink cooling(you can keep your power supply as is).

Most recent games(like Oblivion for example) with those newer specs requirements for Shaders,OpenGl and DirectX 9.0c will play right at low resolution on a 15 or 17 in. screen. This is basically what is offered.

The video card is cheap and should extend the life of the computer you have.Low resolution does not mean a blurred screen. For a casual gamer it offers a compromise.

There are 128-bit versions of the 6200...if you can find one, it's close to the 9600XT in performance. But stay far away from the 6200 Turbocache models.

Thank you. I was only considering it because I saw it online for $25 after rebates & Google check out.
I would like to stick to the GeForce line, since they work better with Linux. I am running XP now, but seeing how power hungry Vista is, I probably will dual boot.

I don't have enough $ to build a new system, otherwise I'd use PCI-e. But I also shouln't be upgrading either. But seeing my current card at the bottom of the list makes me want to upgrade though!
I just thought that this would be a good deal.

Again, thank you.
