Try looking for an X800 XL its not quite as good as the Pro version but looks to be a lot better value for money.
In reference to your actual question, both cards cards have advantages over the other and also disadvantages. I have found that when choosing a graphics card it usually comes down to personal preference between nVidia and ATi. It all depends whether you want shader model 3.0 or 3DC technology more. Bear in mind that the ATi cards usually beat the nVidia cards hands down in Half-Life 2 and the opposite is true for Doom 3. Higher end nVidia cards usually support SLI as well whereas ATi cards do not, so this may be a deciding factor.
My advice would be to wait until nVidia releases another card to contend with the X800 XL because they are bound to be cheaper than the 6600GT.
Matt

x800xl-$301, x800pro $326 , i dont see a big difference in price, personally i play hl2 and css alot, and planning on getting bf2 and cod2, which vard would perform beter in those games? i havea friend saying get 6600gt cause of its features, he says it will beat up ati visually big time, i am an ati fan, ive had both and personally ive had less problems when running ati software, but is that true though, that 6600gt-6800gt have better quality over x800pro?
peace
