hi there... i have a pentium IV processor which is suposed to run at 2.4 GHz, but aplications such as warpspeeder, or the Intel(r) Processor Frequency ID Utility shows the current speed at 1800 GHz. I think this aint normal so I just want my processor to run at the speed it should.

If it's an Intel board then you may need to do the required BIOS upgrade.
If it's NOT an Intel board then I would check for FSB jumpers in the wrong position.

Not related to your post but 128MB isn't much ram for a computer with a 2.4GHz P4 running WINXP Pro.
How are things running?

Things are running well, but until now I noticed with Intel Frequency ID Utility that the processor was running at a lower speed, and i have this pc for 10 months now. By the way, what exactly is FSB jumper, how do I check them, or is it better to call someone to check them for me... my sister's friend make my pc so I don't if I should reclaim for this error, or whatever it is

Here is a simple request.. RIGHT CLICK on MY COMPUTER, and select properties. The Processor is listed under Computer on the GENERAL tab. The first part is the actual processor detected, and the second line is the actual speed the processor is running at. The final line is the RAM....
What is your's??....:o)

First tab: Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 2.40GHz
Second Taba: 2.40 GHz
Last one: 128 MB RAMBut still. The Intel Frequency ID Reports 1.8 GHz. Plus while "overclocking" with Warpspeeder (isn't actually overclocking cause it doesn't overpass the speed the procesor was designed for) I can get to 2400MHz (132% overclock percentage), the I close the Warpspeeder, reopen and it will be at 2400MHz but now th overclock percentage will be at 100% (a relief). But after I restartt my computer, it will be at 1800MHz.

Ok. it now sounds like he FSB as stated by JIM_1.
The FSB should be around 333x7 = 2.331If the FSB is 266x7 then that = 1.862 like what you are indicating.
The FSB is set by jumpers on the MoBo, or JUMPERLESS by the BIOS, or a combination of both. As you haven't mentioned the MoBo model, i can't say which it is. I gether that these two utilities do not report the FSB, but I am betting it is only 266. Download SISOFT SANDRA from :-
http://www.sisoftware.net/
This excellent utility will tell you exactly what your FSB is. Also,, tell us all the MoBo model and we can go even further..:o)

Hey, it's me,Carlos, the dude with this problem, I forgot my password, so I created a new account.
I downloaded and installed SiSoftware Sandra Standard Unicode (Wind 32x86) 2004.2.9.104, but where do I check for the FSB and MoBo model?

Hi Carlos,
Now that you have SANDRA installed, RIGHT CLICK on My Computer, and select SYSTEM SUMMARY. This will launch SANDRA. In the system summary you will see various listings. Check out the Processor and Mainboard listings. The Processor speed is shown, and in the mainboard list, the FRONT SIDE BUS (FSB) speed is shown. it will show the multiplier and the bus speed = the real speed, EG. 4x 100MHz = 400MHz. You can then have a look at all the other things you can do with SANDRA, but this is the main thing we are interested in. BE CAREFUL when trying some of the other functions in SANDRA, it warns you to NOT MOVE the mouse with certain tests and scans.
As for the MoBo (or mainboard as it is listed) the type should be in that same summary list under Mainboard/Mainboard...:o)
Post your findings..

By the way, if you can, send me an email to calichem22@hotmail.com

Ok!.. well that tells a story huh 1.8Ghz it is..
Right next thing on SANDRA. CPU & BIOS Info.. do that test. Close the summary and you'll see the CPU & BIOS check. In that list is the MULTIPLIER number. What is it?This multiplier is done in BIOS, because I downloaded your Mobo manual and there are no jumpers on the Mobo. The setting in BIOS is under FREQUENCY CONTROL and it shows the RATIO (multiplier) VOLTAGE and CLOCK. The clock will be 100Mhz, and the multiplier should be 24 if 2.4Ghz is to be achieved.
Anyway,, check all this out and see what you see...:o)

Hey dude!!! see, i get into the bios and check the frequency which was at 133mhz, I changed it to 15mhz and changed some other stuff too, I boot windows and both warpspeeder and Intel Freq Id show 2399, but the sound card wasn't detected, so I get back to the BIOS and restore every to Optimized Defaults including the frequency to 133Mhz, thinking that the processor speed will be again at 1800, but NO! no it's running at 2399 or 2400, I don't know why!!! So thanks for your help

You didn't say what the RATIO was,, but nonetheless you did the right thing by hitting "defaults". I should have thought of that!!!
There could have been lots of other settings that was throwing everything off. Glad you are now running at the P4 speed though, and you are welcome!
