You may find the only way out is to perform a low level format which wipes everything off the hdd. Generally one can be downloaded from the hdd makers website.

Then run FDISK to partition and format as normal.

Good luck - keep us posted.

LOCK Command
************

SYNTAX

LOCK [drive:]

drive: Specifies the drive that needs to be locked.

UNLOCK [drive:]

drive: Specifies the drive that needs to be unlocked.

EXAMPLES

lock c: - This would lock the C: drive

When typing the above command you will receive the following prompt:

WARNING: The LOCK command enables direct access by programs
that can CORRUPT file names and/or DESTROY disk data, resulting in the
loss of files on your disk.

Are you sure (Y/N)?

unlock c: - This would unlock the C: drive

It is important to know that if errors occur indicating that a process such as fdisk or a setup of a new program or operating system occur indicating that the process cannot continue because the hard disk drive is locked that using the unlock command will resolve this issue.

You need to know how and why it was write protected in the first place. Maybe a password is involved.

e.g. it may have been on a slave on a network where the user(s) cannot be allowed to mess with the o/s.

Good luck - keep us posted.
