i was having a little trouble with win2000 the other night when i decided to just repair and skip the trouble. I have just intstalled Mandrake on my computer so the boot has just been redone, but i dont think this has anything to do with it. So i put the win2000 cd in to repair it boots from the cd and starts loading all the files it needs. I left because im impatient and come back to a computer with no power. I push the power, nothing. So i unplug from the back ,wait, plug it back in and nothing. So i open it up and repeat the process. Now i can see that when i press the power button, the fans twitch, but thats the only response i can get. I then have to unplug and wait again to even get the to twitch again. ive taken out the cmos battery but that does nothing. Something similar happened once before when the cpu fan broke off but that all seems to be intact. im outta ideas. i hope nothings damaged. thanks in advance for any help.

I'd start from scratch. Disconnect verything but what the machine needs to get to POST (aal but RAM, CPU & fan and see what happens. If the system beeps, shut it down and add the video card and hook up the monitor. Turn it on again, look and listen. If it gets to POST, keep shutting the system down and restarting, adding cards first, then floppy, hard disk and CD-ROM drives. Through the process of elimination you should be able to resolve what the problem is. It's worked for me, usually it turns out that something is loose or grounded. Hope this helps.
