Hi I have a quick question:

My computer isn't powering on when I push the power switch.

Here is a list of what I am experiencing:

1) The Motherboard light is on, indicating that there is power being supplied to the motherboard when the computer is off.

2) I tried cutting the wires off the switch and shorting them out myself. Didn't work, re-assembled the switch

3) I have checked to make sure that the power switch wire is jumpered to the motherboard properly.

4) When I hit the powerswitch, the Cooling fan and CPU fans will twitch just a little bit...

I am thinking that this is a POWER SUPPLY problem, maybe its shorting out right after power up. But I want to be sure. I just wanted to get some other ideas on what it MAY be... or if I am right in thinking the Power Supply is screwed.

Thanks for all the help!

Curtis

Sounds more like something is shorted out some where. The fans run on +12v. When you try to power on the system, the power supply puts out the voltage, but then detects an over current on one of the voltages, causing it to shut down everything.

Could be anything in the system shorting out. First try unplugging all the external cables to printer, mouse, keyboard, etc. Then the cables from all the Disk drives, CD-ROM drives and diskette drive. Try unplugging any/all adapter cards, then the memory. If necessary unplug the processor, so that only the system board and switches are connected to the power supply. If the fan still does not come on, then you are down to a system board or power supply problem, and you will have to replace one or the other just to find out which is bad. Hopefully it will be one of the other devices.

Hi,
I'm having the same problem with a new (used) computer I just bought with a Shuttle AK12 mobo, and at first it did OK, but now won't boot at all. Had intermittent problems with power switch on front, replaced it and all was well for a brief while.

Now it won't boot at all, won't even POST.
The LED on the mobo comes on when the rocker switch on the back of the psu is turned on, and it blinks when I first hit the on/off (momentary) switch on the front panel, but then nothing.

I took the mobo out and cleaned and replaced all components, but no help. Even tried new power suppy (psu), with no results.

Any ideas, anyone?

Thnks,
Felix
