Emachines / T3985
October 1, 2009 at 12:03:30
Specs: Windows XP
a friend resonantly gave me there old computer witch is an e machines t3985 and when i first plugged it in it went through every thing fine and was at the desktop.
then it just randomly shut off.now when i press the power button you can here the fan start to spin for like 1 second or less then it stops. or if i keep pressing the button once in a wile the fan will just stay on but that's all that seems to be happening.
the monitor shows the test screen or what not saying check all connections no input. i noticed the cap lock and number lock lights don't turn on or off when you press the keys when it seems to be running (the fans on constant). also i took the side panel off and there a little green light on the mother board that's lit up when the fans on constant. i am not to good with fixing computers so any help would be grateful.

Sounds like your RAM came unseated. Double check that.

The power supply is probably bad. eMachines is notorious for using crappy Bestec units that have a high failure rate.
