Specs: Windows XP
Hello,

I'm running the setup on this external HD and I'm getting the message:

NTI Backup Now EZ

Can not be installed on external drive

I have it plugged into my computer, USB port at the front of the pc. I'm running Windows XP. Any idea what I can do?

Thanks,
Christina

Try using your different usb ports i've found for some reason that the usb ports in the back of the computer have a better success rate for things like this because they are attached directly to the motherboard...other than that i have no idea

Thanks, but I tried that. The USB ports on the back of the pc are smaller than the one on the front of pc and I can't connect it. :(

"Can not be installed on external drive"

The message seems pretty clear to me. Why do you want to install the backup software on the external?

Well, I don't want to install the backup software on an external drive. I plugged the external drive into the USB port on the front of the pc. Clicked on setup. Everything was fine until I got to installing the NTI Backup Now EZ into a folder. It asked if I wanted the location to be:

C:/Program Files\New Tech Infosystems\Backup Now EZ

I clicked "next" and that's when I got the message:

NTI Backup Now EZ

Can not be installed on external drive

Make sure you're selecting the correct directory to install the software.

Does anyone have any idea how I can get around this? If not, I'll be returning this hard drive and try to find another alternative.

Thanks.

This is a test, this is only a test:

Make sure C:\ is the root directory. Create a new folder in C:\ & name it, TEST.

Run the NTI setup program but when it gets to the point where it asks which directory to install to, do NOT accept the default location...click the Browse button & select the C:\TEST folder. Will it install to that folder?
