Wont detect new HDD

Hey,

My new HDD (40gb Western Digital) wont detect as the primary HDD, but will when set as the secondary HDD.

I think Western Digital drives have to be set as 'Single' when alone on a cable.

WD drives are weird like that. Don't put any jumpers on the drive unless there's a slave present. If there's a slave, THEN jumper the WD as master.

My 30 GB WD drive has a special jumper position as a single drive that is printed on the lable on top of the drive.
As the jumper is place horitontally it may just be a secure place to put the jumper without connecting anything but I'm not sure.

The single jumper position should be printed on the label on the drive. If not take a look at the WD site and search for your drive. There should be an explanation of the jumper positions !!!

Free Weasel is correct. Setting the jumper horizontally is just a neutral position.
