I have a new laptop and I turned it on and it booted up then imediately went into hibernation. I had it pluged into AC. now I can't get the computer to come on at all. the power LED blinks 3 times after I push the power button and thats all I get. Any clues?

You should not be experiencing this problem if it is a new laptop. Under this scenario the best course of action you should take is to have the store or Compaq Authorized Service Center fix it for free. I would not mess with anything new so as not to void the warranty.

How new are we talking ? days/weeks/months
Anyway, try this:
With the AC adapter disconnected and the backup battery removed, push and hold in the power button approx 3 minutes (time yourself), then reattach the AC adapter and the backup battery. Power on the laptop and see if it works.
