I have an Inspiron 8600 with a wirless connection to a network using a cable modem and a linksys wireless router. Recently I've been having serious connectivity issues where my computer either can't connect with the network or when it does the connection varies in speed from 54 Mbps to 1 Mbps and eventually disconnecting and reconnecting.

I've tried reseting the wireless router (which didn't help) but if I had to wager a guess I'd say the problem lies with my laptop, not the network. Any suggestions as to how one might fix this problem. I wish I could be more specific but the problem sort of snuck up on me and I can't for the life of me seem to fix it. Simply put as of late my connection has just been down the tubes with varying speeds and frequent disconnects and reconnects. I'll probably have trouble posting this so please any help would be much appreciated.

Does your Inspiron have built-in WLAN?
If not, and you're using a PCMCIA cardbus, you'll need to download the program and driver from the manufacturer's site.
Sometimes, Windows does not 'remember' the wireless settings for your laptop.

Did you install the application from the Intel site or are you using Windows wireless network settings?

Well with the way my internet is working right now, it's pretty much impossible to download so... I guess I'm in a hole here.

Also, does your router has 'normal' wired ethernet connections? Try to connect your laptop with a cable, download the app and install.

If that doesn't work try to download it on an other computer and use a usb stick/cd rom to transfer it to yours.
