Wireless G notebook won't detect

I just bought a linksys wireless G router and a wireless notebook adapter and for some reason the notebook adapter won't detect the wireless network, any ideas anyone? Everything seems to be working just fine, windows XP detects and installs the card, but just doesn't see the network. The two units are only about 5 feet apart, so I'm puzzled...

I have a different wireless network but when i setup my clients i had to tell each one what the Access point name was. That's what matches any given network adapter to it's receiver.
Oh and make sure you setup encryption otherwise someone outside your house could steal your bandwidth.
