hi. i have a laptop and a normal external usb hard drive. i was basically wondering if there were any way for me to access this hard drive without having it plugged into my computer at all times. for instance, if i could plug it somehow into my router with some kind of usb ethernet adapter or something? im looking for a cheap way to possibly do this and i dont really wanna spend a lot of money and buy a new hdd designed for this.
thanks
Bobby

Umm, yes, but not in the way you describe. There are Network Attached Storage devices. Some are basically a hard drive enclose, you put a drive in, and connect it to your router. There are also some devices (the NSLU2 from Linksys comes to mind) that will connect an external USB drive to your network. Expect to spend from $75 to $300 to do what you are asking.
