I have a lot of unneccasary data and a virus that i cannot get rid of on my hard drive, and i would like to just wipe the drive clean and start over. Could someone please tell me exactly how i should go about doing that and afterwards if all i need to do is boot up the Win98 disk and reinstall. If someone could post a detailed walthrough, i would be MUCH obliged.

Well since you have the win98 disk it makes it all easier. (if you do not need any of the files on your system then follow these steps) When you system first boots up pop the win98 disk in. When it comes to the screen that asks to boot from cd or hard disk. go to boot from cd. then on the next selection screen go to setup win98. when you enter the setup hit F3 to exit. and hit it again to confirm it. on the next screen type in. format C:/q after it formats restart the computer. go back to the win98 setup. instead of exiting the setup hit enter and go through with the setup.

You don't by any chance think Buddists are going to destroy the world by wiping their hard drives do you? We are losing OUR freedoms by a kind of idiocy. I don't think a quick format is sufficient. If FORMAT /U is all you have, that would be better. However, download WIPE.exe from IBM.COM--assuming they haven't paniced too--and use it on the drive.

LOL no they need at least to fdisk and delete first and do more than a Quick format. fdisk and delete and deletee untill there is nothing left to delete and then let the 98 CD do a complete formate in setup

Ok, so after I've wiped out my hard drive and reinstalled windows, do i need the disk for my cd-rom and sound card? Those are the only disks i dont have out of all my components.
