Specs: Windows XP Professional
I got a BackdoorTidserv virus, and wanted to wipe and reload my computer. After i load from the cd and it goes through the first windows setup. Then, when it says its starting windows, the screen turns grey, and it doesn't do another thing. I really need some help to wipe and reload my computer. I have an essay due two days from now, and no computer to type it on...

Why not just wipe the infection? If you haven't already messed things up by trying to reinstall Windows, it's worth a shot.

You have to disable the rootkit, then you can run a spyware/malware scan, then a full virus scan. You MUST be disconnected from the interent when doing the removal. And it would be a good idea to run all scans from safe mode.

I tried to wipe the virus in safe mode with Norton. Is there something else i can do to just get rid of the virus? My brother told me to wipe it, so i believed him. So far i haven't been able to get rid of it. If Norton detects it, then it says it is unable to remove it. Any suggestions? Thanks!!
