winME to XP error

Specs: winME
i have an ACER aspire 4310..after formating using win98se..i try to install winXP(sp1 sp2 and sp3)after downloading all files needed for installation there is an error saying that there are no hard disk found on the system(thesame problem with different sp's)..ive already scanned the hard disk and no error was found...i try to install using win98 and winME and it was successful but when i up grade these it came up with the same error(no hard disk found)...can you help me for this...thanks

Does the XP install and boot to a normal windows desktop?

Why are you using Win98 to format. The default file system for WinXP is NTFS and it is usually recommended that you use it. Only exceptions are if you are dual booting Win98 & Winxp or you have a very small partition for WinXP.

Is the hard drive identified in the POST screens at start up? Is the hard drive a SATA type?
