Well the blue hue around the desktop liks means that the file was compressed. To undo this go into My Computer=>Right click your primary hard drive=>Properties=>Uncheck "Compress disk to save disk space". It my take a long time depending on how much you have on the hard drive. For the missing tabs try going to Control Panel=>Swich to Category View=>Apperance and Themes=>Choose a screen saver/Change the desktop background. Also check if you have admin privliges. I hope this helps but the missing tabs never happened to me so I'm not too sure about the tabs.

Thank you. Regarding the blue hue around the desktop icons. The "Compress disk to save disk space" was not checked. I did check it and 'applied' then unchecked it and applied and nothing changed. I also tried your suggestion for getting my display tabs back, but didn't work. I received another reply and that reply did restore all the tabs. Thank you for your suggestions. tcolton

tcolton, Looks like your other post got removed because you double posted. Try the following for the icon problem:
Right click your Desktop, choose Properties, under the Desktop tab click the Customize Desktop button, under the Web tab make sure that every item and box is unchecked, click OK/Apply/OK.
