Specs: Windows 98
Am trying to fix a friends laptop, which has a "windows system32 config system missing or corrupt" error.

After the initial splash screen it tries to start windows and immediatly gets this error.

Have got it to boot using a boot CD I created but can't seem to get it to look at the C: drive. Says "invalid drive specification".

I am able to use fdisk and see partitions (I think - although not quite sure what it should look like) and it seemed ok. Utising a utilities CD I found.

No windows setup CD so not able to repair.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance ;o)

i've found out a fat-based system will not recognize a ntfs-based drive. the bios will see it (if it's not fried) but the fat32 os will not - it's invisible to it. maybe there's a way but i don't know it. need to slave the drive to another ntfs-bootable to access the drive. that still doesn't fix the basic problem so not much help. sorry. If your fdisk shows NTFS then you know you probly need another ntfs boot drive or fix the boot problem ("config system") on the original drive. I sympathize as i am suffering similar problems. apologies again, hope the wizards of windows will give better magix.
