Windows nor BIOS detecting new 500GB HDD

August 9, 2010 at 20:30:00
Specs: Windows XP
New HD 500GB is not detecting, either on MY COMPUTER nor BIOS/CMOS.

I tried changed wire, tried to enable slave HD... nothing changed.

(When I go to Bios set up, I see Slave-NOT DETECTED.

Is there anything I need to do more.

Is it IDE or SATA?

If it's IDE, is it going to be used for the OS or as a storage drive? If it's for the OS, it should be the on the primary channel jumpered as master. And make sure you use the correct master setting...there may one setting for "single" & another for "dual".

If it's going to be a storage drive, it should be on the 2ndary channel. If it's paired up with another device on the same cable, one must be master & the other must be doesn't matter which is which.

If it's alone on the cable, it should be jumpered as master or master/single.
