windows loading stalls not matter how long I leave it.

Specs: Windows xp
my computer stalls at the loading windows screen. the bar at the bottom still moves back and forth and it just does that forever, windows never loads. Once in a great while it will look like it is going to load, but then I get a blank black screen with just the mouse arrow. I am able to move the arrow, but the screen is blank. When that happens, I leave it alone, thinking my computer is just running slow and widows is loading, but again, it stays that way forever.

can I fix this myself?

If you are loading XP or reloading clean and you have SATA drives, XP installer does not include SATA drivers, they need to be added with a floppy drive during the install when asked about drivers OR you can see if your BIOS offers you the option to simulate IDE drives on your SATA hard drive during the loading process and then change it back after all of your drivers are loaded.
If you give more specifics on your system, There may be more specific help some may be able to add to this information.

You have to be a little bit crazy to keep you from going insane.
