Windows CE won't load on wireless book

November 17, 2010 at 13:28:08
Specs: Windows CE
Purchased a 7" wireless notebook from a newspaper ad, new, after charging the window just says Loading OS Image and just sits there. It is suppose to have Windows CE OS. No name on notebook except made in China. This is the only information I have. Purchased about 1 year ago, has just been sitting in the box. Any thoughts? Tag on the back says Windows Embedded CE 6.0 Core 00039-411-817-037 X13-12056

You may need to re-install Windows CE, may be difficult becuase CE is usually embedded:

There might be a way to do a cold reset. Look for some small button. Might be a combo of keystrokes or button and hold something. No manual with it???

Might contact who sold it for more info.

Why did it take me over a year to phone in a problem to ATT?

You are good! I contacted the manufacturer, and there was a download available. This company is in Indiana, and there have been several complaints to the BBBureau about them. Although they were very helpful on the phone, I had to download the recovery disk info to an SD card, and it did work. Thanks for your help, and I would advise not buying a computer from an ad or online, this one was sold as no refunds, of coarse I did not know that when I bought it. Only $180.00 a year ago, the company is called Thirdscroll. I could have put that money toward a real laptop. Thank you again, at least I got it working.

If you don't have the same computer model, which is not identified in this subject, you probably can't use the same Recovery disk(s) with your computer.

KatMik has only made this one subject and it's unlikely she or he will replay.

You could try sending KatMik a PM - Personal Message - from this site - KatMik will then get an email indicating there is a PM to look at - if Katmik so chooses, he or she will send you a PM, you will get an an email indicating there is a PM to look at .

I got the recovery disk at ezbookpc.com/recoverydisc
Download. I can't get it to install completely.
I did load it, but not all the functions are there. I was told to download it to a SD card, which I did, install the SD card in the TURNED OFF notebook and it would reinstall automatically. Some items did, most did not. The componants are on the SC card however; I am quite puzzled why they will not install.

I will contact the company tomorrow

I have tried for 3 days to get this piece of junk working, no luck. I will contact this company again. I was on the phone with them over an hour 2 days ago. I will keep trying, and keep you updated. DO NOT BUY THIS USELESS THING!! Thirdscroll is the company selling it. The download I was told to recover from ezbookpc.com keeps stopping. Very frustrated, not to mention a waste of $180.00!

"The download I was told to recover from ezbookpc.com keeps stopping."

If you mean it won't download from the internet fully
- try rebooting your high speed modem, or combo router / high speed modem.
Switch off it's power button if it has one, or unplug it's power cable at the device, plug it back in. WAIT a short time until the leds on the front of the device show you it's got ahigh speed connection, then try downloading again.
If you have a separate high speed modem and a standalone router , you could try doing the same thing with your router as well.
- wired network connections are a lot more reliable than wireless ones, especially when you're using wireless G or older. If your computer has a built in wired network port, try connecting that to the router or combo router/ high speed modem, disabling any wireless connection, rebooting, and try downloading again.

If you mean the download you did manage to get will not install all the way, then try downloading it again (it may be corrupted) , delete the other download.
......

"I did load it, but not all the functions are there."

You may need to also install drivers for your system that were not built in and automatically installed, after the software installation is finished, if all it does is install Windows CE itself.

Thanks for your imput. The download came thru fine from the internet, and all the components appear to be on the SD card, but when I book up the notebook to install from the SD card, it starts, then the install process stops when it starts to install snype.exe

I am calling the manufacturer now.

"when I book up the notebook to install from the SD card, it starts, then the install process stops when it starts to install snype.exe"

If you had been installing it from a CD, I've seen and heard of that problem many times when I or someone here is trying to install Windows by booting from it. In that case, it's usually caused by the laser lens being dirty, or small amounts of ram errors. Windows Setup is very sensitive to errors reading from the source of the files, or small amounts of ram errors.

With the main battery and AC adapter to it removed, you could try removing it's ram, wiping off it's contacts with a tissue or soft cloth, don't touch the contacts with your fingers after that, and install the ram making sure it's installed in the right direction - the notch in the contact edge must line up with the bump in the bottom of the slot - and all the way down into it's slots .
Then restore power and try again.

You could also try re-formatting the SD card after copying files off it you want to keep, then copying a fresh copy of the download to the SD card, then trying again.

After another call to the manufacturer, and a 3 day wait for their IT guy to call, by process of elimination, start from the beginning, I went and bought a new SC card. Just put it in, an everything loaded on this headache notebook. WHEW! Finally!

I purchased a 4GB SD card, so I knew there was plenty of room. My other card was 256, which was the size recommended. I will be glad to tell the IT guy in case they have this problem with someone else. I am going to go check it out now. Thanks to all for your help

We're glad to hear you solved your problem.

As I told you in response 10, this would probably have worked too:

"You could also try re-formatting the SD card after copying files off it you want to keep, then copying a fresh copy of the download to the SD card, then trying again."

Laptops and netbooks are always one brand or another, although which one may not be obvious by the markings on the outside of it.

If you supply whatever markings you find on the outside of it we may be able to help you identify it.

If you can access it's bios Setup there may also be info in that, that you could supply that will help - e.g. brand, model number, bios version, etc.

"the download site is no longer working"

Which download site ?
What's it's address ?

If you don't have the same computer model, which is not identified in this subject, you probably can't use the same Recovery disk(s) with your computer.

I received mine as a gift and while it was a cheap gift it was still a gift, after 2 weeks of use I ran into this problem and did some searching online and found this site. The irony is I never would have actually purchased this thing which in my case was bought for me for 140 dollars I could have got a Netbook/notebook with a name brand for less at a few local stores. Gibvven I am unable to return it I just want to fix it and maybe give it to one of my children as a toy as it is only good for that at even when working. I did personal message katmik and hope to get a response soon. thank you for your help to this point I am hopin one of those sites comes back online or that response comes through.

I do not have the recovery disk anymore. There was another gentleman interested in it as well.

I bought my netbook from Thirdscroll as well.
The only thing I have is the same info as post #16. The phone numbers I have for them:
877-285-7287 and 888-444-9038 and 888-882-2211, and you must have winrar to unzip the file. The company's secondary name is www.iheaterstore.com

Warning, although I bought mine awhile ago, they will not do any refunds whatsoever. I went round and round with this company through the attorney generals office as well. Of coarse they don't tell you that when your buying it. I knew I had problems right from the start, no returns, they forwarded a copy of their policy to the attorney generals office, it did not matter that they do not make the buyer aware of this. The netbook works like a turtle, very very slow, so beware DON'T BUT NETBOOKS!!!! Get yourself a decent small laptop. I really hate this thing, and I am use to seamless navigation, I am a mac user. You get what you pay for! My netbook is just collecting dust. Good luck everyone!

See response 5

See response 16.
See response 18 for phone numbers that were correct if the first three highlighted addresses in response 16 still do NOT yield a valid web page.

See all the other posts in this Topic.

If you have the same thing, it's obviously a piece of junk.
