Solved Windows 7 does not recognise some DVDs

October 17, 2012 at 13:51:45
Specs: Windows 7
I've recently done a few windows 7 updates, running Pro 64 bit on a desktop.

It now seems that about half of my DVDs won't read - I can see the drive but it won't recognise them. I know that the DVDs are fine as I can read them on my work laptop.

It does still recognies the rest of them....I'm struggling to understand why this is the case?

Any suggestions?

Going just by what you said, try cleaning the DVD drive. If that doesn't work, get a new DVD drive.

Will do, though it is not being random about what it is / is not reading and it has only happened after running a load of updates

Cool, 20 bucks worth of DVD drive does wonders huh? I learned long ago to just replace an optical drive that started to act up.

Glad ya got it fixed.
