Specs: Windows
Not too sure which version is on the pc, old Dell, was off for some time and now when switched on requests set up/recover disk which for some reason I do not have, is there anyone out there who can help. There is some data and information on the hard disk which I would like to recover.

Not enough information to give a reply, but if you need the data on there your best bet is to either take the harddrive out & slave it into another machine, or use a LiveCD (BartPE or whatever). Trying to do a repair on an old system is liable to lose the lot.

It's not going to matter whether it's got 3.1 or 3.11. They're both just dos programs.

As already mentioned you can slave it to another PC, assuming it's an IDE drive and not an old MFM or RLL. Or you can boot up with a dos or 9X bootdisk and take a look at the hard drive contents that way.
