Subject: win xp cd won't boot from cdromOS: win xp pro sp2CPU/Ram: 2500/512mb |
Comment: i help my friend to install win xp pro on his pc the other day with a BOOTABLE win xp cd on a WORKING cdrom and cdrw drive. his motherboard recognised both cdrom and cdrw, but it just won't boot. i had setup cdrom to be the first boot device in bios, i even went to the extent of setting all first, second and third bot device as cdrom. it just show "invalid system disk.......". i notice his motherboard did detect both his cdrom and cdrw, but doesn't seems to attempt to search them for a bootable cd. any help? thanks....

Reply: (edit)Try it with each optical drive as the only drive connected on the cable.

Reply: (edit)opps...forgot to mention, i've also tried different cable and ide channel. also, win 98 cd(bootable version) was not bootable too. as a result, i had to boot with win98 floppy and install win98, then from within win98, i installed win xp. any idea?

Reply: (edit)The only thing that I can think of is some 'weird' Bios problem that causes booting from the cdrom drive to fail. But I really can't buy it.

Reply: (edit)i've tried both burn and original cd. i believe they were both in good condition as it can be install from within windows but just won't boot from cdrom. the previous windows installation which use the same cd was able to boot directly from cdrom. i think the problem lies on bios which i can't figure whats wrong with it. and i really don't want to flash it as there's a risk of getting it fry.
