OS: Windows 98
CPU/Ram: AMD Athlon700/256mb
Comment:

I have a GeForce4 MX 420 64mb card and need to know if it will work with my motherboard which is an FIC SD11. Here is the spec sheet on the board:
Processor
AMD Athlon processor 500MHz-1GHz @ 200MHz AMD Athlon FSB.
Chipset
AMD 751 & 686A (Super South)
Memory
3 DIMM; up to 786MB PC100 SDRAM
ECC memory support
Bus Frequency
200MHz AMD Athlon FSB
Onboard I/O Connectors
1 serial port, 1 parallel port, 1 PS/2 mouse and keyboard connector, 2 USB conectors, 2 port front USB pin-header
Onboard PCI IDE
2 dual-channeled enhanced PCI Bus Master IDE connectors
Ultra DMA 33/66; DMA Mode 2/4 support
Expansion Slots
1 AGP v1.0, 5 PCI v2.1 compliant, 1 ISA
BIOS
ACPI 1.0
APM 1.2, DMI 2.0, SMBIOS 2.1, PnP 1.0a, USB 1.0, Y2K compliant
Form Factor
ATX 6layer PCB, 12" x 8"
Now the box for the video card says AGP 2.0 or higher expansion port. According to this spec sheet the AGP slot is a 1.0. I know 1.0 is less than 2.0 but does anyone have any idea if it may work or will I do damage to the card or motherboard? Any advice would be great. Thank You in advance.

It shouldn't damage the hardware. If it isn't compatibly you will simply find it doesn't work as expected because correct data transfer between the two will fail.

agp 1.0 uses 3.3 volts for the agp slot

agp 2.0 uses 1.5 volts for the agp slot

Your vid card wants 1.5 volts but your mobo is going to give it 3.3 volts. That's why the vid card box says agp 2.0 or higher. It means do not use this card on an agp 1.0 mobo. I would not try it if I were you.

I stand corrected, and thank you. Must confess hardware is my learning curve, so that info on voltages is usefull. :)

I posted the same question in another forum and they think it will be fine. Here is the link:http://www.poasters.com/forum/index.php?board=3;action=display;threadid=6154

Some agp 2.0 vid cards are "universal" agp which means that they will work on any board. The fact that your box says "use only on agp 2.0 and up" suggests that it is not universal agp. But if it is working for you, then it must be.
