hi!

i happened to stumble across a Turion ML-34 chip in my parts basement (now how often does that happen!?) lol

and it is a socket 754 (says right on it). now these boards are getting hard to find, and there are only a couple places in town that still have socket 754 boards. my choices are ASUS K8V-VM and ASROCK K8NF6G. i've used google, but can't find much of any info on these boards. will this turion chip work with them (that is, support Cool'n'Quiet, correct voltages, etc)???

thx!!!

Custom Build:
Pentium 4 3GHz 1MB L2
1GB DDR400 2-Channel RAM
2x80GB WD SATA HDD RAID0
DVD+/-RW CDRW DVD-RAM

I doubt you can use that CPU in those models.
I believe Turion is a cpu meant for mobile use - laptops - and most desktop boards will not recognize them properly, or the computer won't boot.

ASROCK K8NF6G - CPU support list
http://www.asrock.com/mb/cpu.asp?Mo...

ASUS K8V-VM - can't link directly to results page.
Go to www.Asus.com
Select a location, e.g. North America.
Select Support
Select Cpu Support on the left
Search Cpu Using - Motherboard - Socket 754 - K8V-VM

There are still plenty of new socket 754 boards at various internet sites.

To be able to run a Turion ML-34 in a desktop system, you'll need a good motherboard with full overclock settings...that means multipliers, CPU Freq & voltages. If not, the multi will default to the lowest available & the CPU will run at a fraction of it's design speed. However, if you have a decent S754 board, preferrably one based on the nForce3 250 or 250Gb chipset, you *should* be able to overclock the heck out of it. Default voltage is 1.2v, but at 1.4v you should have no problem hitting 2.4-2.5GHz

The CPU will probably not be recognized properly...most likely it will be listed as "unknown processor", but this will not affect it's performance.

BTW, if you do overclock, be sure to disable Cool 'n Quiet.
