Ok for those of you who remmeber I posted the other day about my newly built computer shutting off at bios, turns out i needed more thermal gel. Anyhow i've encountered a new problem, during bootup it says Device1: LG DVDROM, but for devices 2-4 it says not detected!. Thejn it goes into a sequence that says preparing IDE Scan, and it says cannot detect master IDE H.D.D. The weird thing is i have a sata HD so thats why it wont detect it lol. If i go to the bios screen it does detect my western digital HD but under third device. I've tried plugging it into all the sata ports but it never shows up under primary device, anyone have any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated thank you.

Just a guess! Is there a bios setting that says something like 'Boot from SATA first'?

Not based upon the info (or lack of) that you've provided. How about listing your system specs including the make/model of your board, the number of IDE & SATA drives, & how they're currently connected?

BTW, I like your screenname. Put out the doobs & concentrate on your PC - party up AFTER you get things fixed, not before...lol

Lay off the doobs, 420 boy. Read the rules. Double posts will be removed. Luckily I saved this before the moderator yanked your post.
If you're just building this system & no OS is installed yet, take out all the unnecessary devices. You don't need modem, LAN, soundcard, etc installed, or multiple HDDs & optical drives...you can install them AFTER Windows is up & running! Do the Windows install using minimal hardware.
If you wanna install Windows on the SATA HDD, you're gonna need a floppy drive to install the SATA drivers. Read your motherboard manual for which port to connect the SATA HDD to, & connect the optical drive as the primary master...make sure to check the jumper. And check the BIOS to make sure the optical drive is set as the 1st boot device.
If you wanna install Windows on an IDE HDD, setup the HDD as the primary master & connect the optical as the 2ndary master. Use the master jumper setting on the back of the drive(s)...don't use cable select. Once again, check the BIOS & make sure the optical drive is set as the 1st boot device.
Then just boot off the XP CD & begin the Windows installation.
If you're installing to the SATA HDD, watch for the prompt to "press F6", then install the SATA drivers from the floppy. Once the drivers are installed, the Windows installation will continue

it is possible you may have to disable the ide drive in setup
or take it out of the boot sequence
