On a new Gateway Desktop.

BIOS is correct to boot from CD

CD is fine. Other computers WILL boot from the CD.

I have also swapped out the CD Drives...same result.

The CD is the Gateway XP Recovery Disk

But...the computer will not boot from ANY bootable CD (CD's which will boot just fine on other PCs).

It TRIES to boot.

The following line appears on the screen for about 10 seconds:

Verifying DMI Pool Data..........Update Success
Boot from CD: _ (flashing cursor)

But....it will not follow through and boot from the CD.

I try to press ENTER or something at this point ...but the KB does not respond.

After about 10 seconds....it tries to boot from the HD.

Often...there is a "Press any key to boot from CD"...but that DOES NOT appear here.

It is like it is trying to boot from the CD (it does see it)....but then goes back to the HD.

Again...this IS a bootable CD...it will boot on other PC's just fine.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks

Check the Manual that came with the Computer. You may need to use an "F" key with the Gateway CD.

IME, with an OEM Restore CD, all that's been necessary is starting the Computer with the CD in the Drive. The Disk typically takeds it from there.

There is nothing to learn from someone who already agrees with you.

Thanks very much....

F8 did work....but even then....the screen would go dark after selecting Safe Mode or any other option.

I had Neglected to check the other cards in the PC.

It end up the modem was bad....evidently a surge had gotten it (burned spot on the circuit board and all).

Once that was removed...the PC stated right up....does not even need to be restored.

Thanks....
