Will my motherboard support my new CPU?

December 12, 2010 at 16:46:45
Specs: Windows 7 x86, Phenom II x4 / Hynix 1x1gb

I have an NVIDIA MCP61PM-AM motherboard and I'm wondering if I can find support for my AMD Phenom II x4 processor. It fits the slot, but I know this isn't enough. Is there a place where I can find an updated bios or something that adds support? Or is this not an option? Any help is appreciated!

Bios updates should only be obtained from the board maker or if the board was built for a specific OEM builder such as Emachines, then only from them. It seems Emachines, Biostar and Acer & Gateway are at least 4 OEM builders that use versions of this motherboard.Who built your system?

You already have the CPU, right? And it sounds like you already tried it in the CPU socket, so why bother asking? Either it will work or it won't. Hopefully you don't fry it when you try it!

Gateway built it, and yes I've tried it. I've worded it weird but I was asking where I can get the bios update/is there a bios update for my cpu.

If it was built by gateway then that is the only place to get any BIOS update. If they do not list a bios update for your exact system that addresses the exact CPU upgrade you want to do then you are out of luck.
