OS: Win 98 SE
CPU/Ram: P3 / 128 mb PC133
Product: Jetway 993AN motherboard
Comment:

Diablotek Radeon 9000 / 128MB DDR / AGP 4x / DVI / VGA / TV Out / Video Card

All the manual says is that the AGP slot supports 533mb/sec data transfer 66/133 MHZ bus clock.

this is link for the motherboard:

I plan to increase the ram by 512 mg.

Thank you

Versions of AGP
Intel released the first version of AGP; appropriately titled “AGP specification 1.0,” in 1997. It included both the 1x and 2x speeds. Specification 2.0 documented AGP 4X and 3.0 documented 8X. Available versions include:

AGP 1x
A 32-bit channel operating at 66 MHz resulting in a maximum data rate of 266 megabytes per second (MB/s), doubled from the 133 MB/s transfer rate of PCI bus 33 MHz / 32-bit; 3.3 V signaling.
AGP 2x
A 32-bit channel operating at 66 MHz double pumped to an effective 133 MHz resulting in a maximum data rate of 533 MB/s; signaling voltages the same as AGP 1x;
AGP 4x
A 32-bit channel operating at 66 MHz quad pumped to an effective 266 MHz resulting in a maximum data rate of 1066 MB/s (1 GB/s); 1.5 V signaling;
AGP 8x
A 32-bit channel operating at 66 MHz, strobing eight times per clock, delivering an effective 533 MHz resulting in a maximum data rate of 2133 MB/s (2 GB/s); 0.8 V signaling.

The specs given are for AGP 8X. Normally AGP slots are backward compatible one generation so your 4X card should work.

As per the info above, 533MB/s = AGP 2X. If you were to look at your BIOS or the BIOS section of the manual under CHIPSET FEATURES SETUP (page 21), you'd see "AGP-2X Mode" & you have the choice to either enable or disable.

An AGP 4X card *should* work, but it will depend on the AGP slot & how the card is sloted:

jam: I checked to see what the exsisting video card was that was in the computer. If that is of any help to you. It was a Pine Technology PT-5986-1A V1.0

A keyword search in this forum's archive for sis 305 5986-1a brought up some information. Subject: Voltage of a AGP Card. It may not be any good though because it is for version 2.0 of that card.

I don't know how I missed the information in the manual that the AGP slot was 2x. My brain was probably numb by page 21, since I'm learning as I go bumbling around in the computer case. Thank you for the help.
